Know when to fold ‘em

One of the most important things as an athlete is to listen to your body!

Lots of people ask me how I recover from doing such high volume training and my answer is simple. I understand and listen to my body!

Yesterday I got about halfway through my session and decided (midway through a round of a WOD) to throw in the towel for the day. I know this seems counter intuitive to some die hard competitive exercisers, who’s finish-the-WOD-even-if-it-kills-me attitudes, mean the would rather walk out of the gym bruised, limping and coughing up blood before saying “I quit”, but it’s how I train and I believe the key to my success.

(Note: I’m not talking about packing it in because the WOD is too hard/heavy/ you can’t do something, I’m talking about when your joints are aching, you are missing warm ups sets and running the risk of injury. Of course you’ll feel like shit midway through Murph, it’s when you can’t run without your knee cap feeling like it’s about to shoot off your leg you need to stop, not when push ups start to burn your chest haha)

I love training and I have nothing but respect for those who grind through sessions even when the feel like shit, however I know that when my body says stop, if I don’t listen, I’ll end up going backwards or worse, injured.

You have to be able to let go of your ego and walk away from the bar.

Rest day today. PRs tomorrow!
